Four Peaks Mining Co. presents Meteorite Finds and Falls, an educational evening with Kevin LeGore from Focus Astronomy Outreach.
Do you know the difference between a meteorite find or fall? Have you ever wanted to capture a comet? Or, hold a meteorite in the palm of your hand? Don’t miss this chance to do just that! Listen while Kevin shares his love and knowledge of these treasures from space. Learn the difference between a ‘find’ and a ‘fall.’ See Kevin’s unique collection of more than twenty two meteorite fragments from famous sites such Canyon Diablo in Arizona, Fukang in China, Gibeon in Namibia and Admire in Kansas, which will be on display for the evening. You will have an opportunity to see examples of the rare Pallasite meteorite slices, with Olivine Crystals, that rival the most intricate stained-glass windows in any cathedral in the world. These 4-1/2 billion year old rocks hold the secrets of the earth’s beginning and contain some of the earliest minerals on earth!
Kevin will be giving presentations at 5:00 and 7:00 pm and we’ll have special solar eclipse glasses as a giveaway for the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21st, while supplies last. Discover the interesting uses for meteorite fragments and slices in our unique jewelry selection. We will also have a special selection of small meteorite gifts and fragments for sale, starting at only $10, so bring the kids by when school lets out. This will be a fun evening for the whole family!
